The Abuja Legend Metro Lions Club, on Thursday, 26th June 2025, carried out a community outreach at Kubwa General Hospital, a facility within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
As part of its activities marking the end of the Lion’s year on 30th June 2025, the Club sponsored free cataract surgeries for four individuals and distributed essential items, including food, to patients in the wards.
Speaking with journalists at the event, President of the Abuja Legend Metro Lions Club, Ln Deborah Matthew Pukuma, said the Club focuses on supporting those in need.
According to her, raising awareness about eye care, diabetes, cancer, and other health issues is part of the group’s outreach efforts.
“Today is our signature project because we are ending the Lion’s year on the 30th of June. So today, we are doing cataract surgery for people who could not afford it. And also feeding the hungry—giving the children and patients a few provisions just to assist them as a show of love from the Club,” she stated.
Deborah urged residents of the FCT and Nigerians generally to pay attention to their eye health.
“My message to Nigerians is for us to take care of our eyes, especially through regular checkups, because early detection of any of these eye conditions is the key to preserving your vision,” she said.
