As Muslims across Nigeria and the world mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year, 1447 After Hijrah, Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, Member representing Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has called for unity and renewed faith among citizens, urging Nigerians to remain hopeful amid economic and security challenges.
In a statement issued to commemorate the new Islamic year, Rurum reflected on the historic migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah, describing it as a lesson in sacrifice, resilience, and collective responsibility.
“The Hijrah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah was not just a journey—it was a turning point in history, symbolizing sacrifice, steadfastness, and the pursuit of justice and truth,” he said. “As we reflect on this sacred milestone, may it serve as a reminder of the values we must uphold in our lives and in our nation: unity, patience, and faith.”
He offered prayers for peace, progress, and healing in Nigeria, saying,
“I pray that this new year brings peace, prosperity, and renewed hope to our homes, our communities, and our country. May Allah (SWT) continue to guide our leaders, bless our land with stability, and ease the suffering of all who are facing difficulties.”
Rurum also voiced support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, particularly policies aimed at addressing economic and governance issues.
“At this critical time in our nation’s journey, it is important that we support the good policies initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which are designed to bring about long-term growth, equity, and development,” he said.
While expressing hope for a better future, Rurum condemned the killing of two Kano indigenes in Makurdi, Benue State, calling the act inhumane.
“I strongly condemn the senseless killing of our two brothers from Kano in Makurdi. This is a tragic loss, and no one deserves to meet such a fate. I call on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that justice is served,” he said.
He extended condolences to the bereaved families.
“My heartfelt sympathy goes to the families of the victims. May Allah grant them comfort, strength, and the fortitude to bear this painful loss. We stand with you in this time of grief.”
To his constituents in Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure, Rurum restated his commitment to representation and service.
“To the people of my constituency, I remain committed to serving you with honesty, fairness, and a deep sense of responsibility,” he said. “May 1447 AH be a year of progress, growth, and blessings for us all.”
