A former Kano State House of Assembly candidate, Adnan Mukhtar Adam, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), blaming what he described as the party’s growing closeness to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a letter dated July 3, 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Tudun Wada Ward in Nassarawa Local Government Area, Adnan said his resignation was based on recent actions by the party’s leadership.
“I have remained a loyal and dedicated member of the party over the years. However, recent developments, particularly the increasing alignment of the party leadership with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the national, zonal, and state levels, are deeply disheartening, frustrating, and unfortunate,” he wrote.
He said the PDP has failed to act like an opposition party and no longer offers a clear direction.
“I strongly believe in the role of a vibrant opposition in strengthening our democracy. Unfortunately, the PDP has failed to offer Nigerians the alternative leadership and vision required at this critical time. Instead, it has chosen to align with elements of the ruling government, thereby betraying the trust of many who once believed in its ideals,” he said.
He also pointed to internal conflicts within the party as part of his reasons for leaving.
“In light of these developments and the persistent internal crises that continue to plague the party at both the national and state levels, I hereby withdraw my membership from the PDP,” he added.
Adnan, who ran for the state assembly under the PDP and was active in its youth wing, said he would now join a coalition group focused on tackling the country’s economic and social problems.
