The Chairman of Gumel Local Government Area in Jigawa State, Lawal Ya’u, has died.
He passed away on Saturday afternoon at a private hospital in Kano, after a brief illness. He was 61.
A source close to the family confirmed his death and said he was buried the same day in his hometown, Gumel, according to Islamic rites.
Lawal Ya’u, a retired civil servant, was elected chairman of Gumel LGA in August 2023.
He is survived by two wives and several children.
