Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has received an award from Mediscope Medical Services, a Riyadh-based organisation, for his administration’s role in supporting mining and natural resources development in the state.
The award was presented by the Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Alhaji Hamza Safiyanu Kachako, during the 29th Kano State Executive Council meeting at the Governor’s Lodge in Kwankwasiyya City.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, noted that the recognition “reflects international acknowledgment of the strides made under Governor Yusuf’s leadership in repositioning Kano’s natural resource sector as a key driver of economic growth.”
“Mediscope Medical Services, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, presented the award to the Governor in recognition of the Kano State Government’s commitment to advancing the mining and natural resources sector,” the statement said.
In his remarks, Governor Yusuf said the award would strengthen the state’s focus on improving sectors that directly impact the lives of residents.
“We are humbled by this recognition and it serves as further encouragement for us to continue working tirelessly to uplift the living standards of our people through sustainable economic initiatives,” he said.
During the session, the governor also received two other awards. One was from the Northern Youth Unity Forum, linked to the Northern Elders Forum, citing his efforts in mineral exploration, environmental concerns, and community initiatives.
The other was from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), which named him a ‘Journalist-Friendly Governor’ as part of its 70th anniversary celebration.
The award was presented by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.
Governor Yusuf said the recognitions would serve as a reminder to continue work in sectors that impact the state’s development.
