Kano Residents Hold Rain-Seeking Prayers Amid Drought Fears

Amid growing concern over delayed rainfall and its impact on farming, hundreds of Kano residents converged on Umar Bin Khattab Mosque on Saturday to perform Salat al-Istisqa — a special prayer for rain.

The session was organised by the Kano State Council of Ulama and attended by Islamic scholars, government officials, and community leaders.

Speaking after the prayer, the Council’s Chairman, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, urged people to pair their prayers with acts of charity and repentance.

“We must seek Allah’s mercy not only through prayer but also by making peace with others and helping those in need,” he said.

The prayer comes as farmers across the state express worry over the prolonged dry spell, which threatens the planting season and food security.
