Gunmen suspected to be bandits invaded Daudawa community in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State on Tuesday night and abducted several residents, including a serving councillor, Hon. Buhari Aliyu Daudawa.
The councillor was said to have been kidnapped while returning from a trip to Funtua. The incident was disclosed on X (formerly Twitter) by a Katsina-based security observer known as Bakatsine.
“Yesterday Tuesday night, bandits invaded Daudawa in Faskari LGA, Katsina State. They abducted several people including the Daudawa ward Councillor, Hon. Buhari Aliyu Daudawa, during the invasion,” the post read.
Residents said the attackers arrived in the evening and began shooting to scare people before making away with those they targeted.
“We just started hearing gunshots, and everybody ran into their houses. Before we knew it, they had taken people, including our councillor. This is not the first time,” a resident said.
Faskari is among several areas in southern Katsina that continue to face attacks, despite ongoing military operations in the region. Kidnappings, killings, and cattle theft are common.
A farmer in the area told reporters, “We live in fear every day. You wake up, and someone has been kidnapped or a whole family has been taken. The government is not doing enough.”
There has been no official statement from authorities regarding the abduction, but residents say the attack shows how vulnerable rural areas remain.
The families of those taken, including Hon. Buhari Aliyu, are said to be in distress, unsure of their whereabouts or condition.
As of Wednesday morning, security agencies had not confirmed any rescue attempt.
