Kano Govt Announces Foreign Scholarships for Health Workers

The Kano State Government has announced a foreign Master’s training opportunity for doctors and nurses in select medical specialties.

The programme targets key areas of clinical care where local expertise remains limited.

According to a statement issued by Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, Executive Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, the sponsorship will cover 19 medical fields, including dermatology, nephrology, intensive care medicine, dialysis care and technology, kidney transplant surgery, and pediatric surgery.

Other fields include psychiatry, ENT (ear, nose, and throat), interventional cardiology, interventional orthopedics, interventional radiology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, cancer care nursing, oncology, ophthalmology, prosthesis, ophthalmic nursing, dialysis nursing, and dialysis biomedical engineering.

“This is a significant opportunity for our medical workforce to gain cutting-edge knowledge and skills that will directly improve patient outcomes in Kano,” Dr. Nagoda said. “We are particularly targeting specialties that are currently underserved in our health system.”

Only doctors and nurses with at least a BSc qualification are eligible to apply.

Interested applicants are required to write formally to the Executive Secretary, attaching relevant credentials and supporting documents.

“Only eligible candidates will be shortlisted for interviews. This is a merit-based opportunity meant to elevate clinical practice standards across our healthcare facilities,” Dr. Nagoda said.

Applications must be submitted by Monday, 28th July 2025.
