Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has received the report of a committee investigating the role of the Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi Dala, in securing bail for a suspected drug trafficker, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.
The committee, set up by the state government, submitted its findings on Tuesday during a meeting at the Government House. The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, presented the report on behalf of the panel.
A statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, revealed that the committee based its conclusions on available documents and testimonies from witnesses.
According to the report, the commissioner “voluntarily submitted an application to serve as surety for the defendant on July 18, 2025.” He also signed an affidavit pledging to comply with all bail terms, affirming his position as a serving commissioner.
The report said Namadi was “fully aware of the bail requirements,” including the rule that only a current member of the State Executive Council could stand as surety. It added that he acted with “constructive and actual knowledge of the drug-related nature of the charges.”
However, the panel concluded that the commissioner “did not exercise adequate caution before taking the decision to stand surety for a defendant facing serious narcotics charges.” It found no evidence of any existing relationship between Namadi and the suspect, nor “any indication of financial or material inducement” in the case.
On the issue of bail money, the report made it clear that the commissioner “did not deposit any sum, including the reported ₦5,000,000,” noting that the figure was only mentioned in the defendant’s affidavit.
It also noted that the commissioner acted despite being “aware that the Kano State Government has a firm stance against drug trafficking, abuse, youth criminality, and related vices.”
While receiving the report, Governor Yusuf said, “We will carefully review the recommendations and take appropriate action in accordance with due process and the public interest.”
He reaffirmed his government’s position, stating, “This government remains resolute in its fight against drug-related crimes and all forms of social misconduct affecting Kano’s youth and society at large.”
