Two men suspected of drug dealing and burglary have been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano.
Confirming the arrests, the spokesperson of the Kano State Command, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the suspects were picked up in separate operations based on intelligence gathered from the public.
“In the first operation, the NSCDC personnel apprehended a suspected drug dealer, Basiru Ahmed, 42 years old, at Salanta in Gwale Local Government Area, in possession of a quantity of substances believed to be Indian hemp (Cannabis sativa),” the statement said.
Abdullahi explained that Ahmed was caught in the act, selling and distributing the banned substance in his neighbourhood.
“The suspect, caught with over 106 parcels of Cannabis, has since been handed over to the state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and necessary legal action,” he added.
In a separate operation, NSCDC officers also arrested Muhammad Abbas, 22, at Gurungawa in Kumbotso Local Government Area. He is accused of breaking into residential homes and stealing valuables worth hundreds of thousands of naira.
“The suspect, who had been on the security watchlist for some time, was apprehended during a coordinated patrol aimed at curbing theft and other criminal activities in the area,” the statement said.
According to Abdullahi, all suspects will be charged to court once investigations are concluded. He also called on the public to remain alert and share any useful information that can help security agencies in tackling crime.
