Kano Govt Assures Donors of Transparency in Fund Utilisation

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has assured development partners that funds allocated to the state will be used prudently and for their intended purposes.

The governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr Suleiman Wali Sani, gave the assurance on Monday when a delegation of development partners paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Kano.

The visiting team included representatives from the Gates Foundation, GAVI, UNICEF, WHO, CHAI and eHealth.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mustapha Muhammad, Governor Yusuf said accountability has been the “bedrock” of his administration since assuming office in 2023.

“We welcome partnerships and collaborations. Funds allocated to the state will be judiciously used. We will continue to work closely with our partners for the benefit of the people of Kano,” he said.

The governor commended the partners for their interventions in the state, particularly in the health sector, noting the establishment of 28 health facilities as part of their support.

Speaking earlier, GAVI’s Senior Country Manager for Nigeria, Jessica Crawford, who spoke on behalf of the visiting organisations, said the team was in Kano to explore further areas of partnership, assess progress, and discuss challenges.

She stressed the need for transparent use of resources, saying this would foster mutual accountability between the state government and its partners.

“Kano is a critical partner for us. It is the face setter in Nigeria. If a project succeeds in Kano, it will succeed across the country,” Crawford said.
