NUC Approves Nursing, Medical Lab Science, Others for Northwest University Kano

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for the establishment of ten new full-time academic programmes at Northwest University Kano, effective from the 2025/2026 academic session.

In a statement signed by Abubakar Ibrahim, Head of the Public Relations Unit, on behalf of the Registrar, the University said the newly approved programmes include B.Sc. Nursing Science, Doctor of Physiotherapy (D.PT.), Bachelor of Radiography (B.Rad.), B.Sc. Pharmacology, B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Science (B.MLS), B.Sc. Human Nutrition and Dietetics, B.Sc. Public Administration, Masters and Postgraduate Diploma in Information Management, Master of Library and Information Science (M.LIS), as well as Postgraduate Diploma, M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Biochemistry.

“This remarkable achievement represents another major milestone in the University’s academic growth, expanding its portfolio to meet the rising demand for highly skilled professionals across diverse disciplines,” the statement read.

Reacting to the development, the Deputy Governor of Kano State and Commissioner for Higher Education, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, congratulated the management, staff, and entire University community.

He commended the Vice Chancellor, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, for what he described as “tireless commitment to transforming Northwest University Kano into a centre of academic excellence and innovation.”

According to the statement, the approval of the new programmes is expected to “enhance the University’s academic profile, broaden access to quality higher education, and contribute significantly to human capital development in Kano State and Nigeria at large.”
