The 2025 Paris Peoples Governors’ Excellence Award will be held on 19 August in Paris, France, to recognise African governors for projects that have brought notable changes to their states.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, will be honoured for introducing community-based security measures. These include setting up community policing structures, working with traditional leaders on conflict prevention, and providing equipment to vigilante and youth groups — steps credited with helping to maintain peace and build public trust.
Kenya’s awardees are Dr Nathif Jama Adam (Garissa County), Dr Kimani Wamatangi (Kiambu County), Prof Hillary Kipngeno Barchok (Bomet County), George Natembeya (Trans Nzoia), Mohamed Adan Khalif (Mandera), and Jeremiah Lomorukai (Turkana).
From Egypt, those recognised include Abdel Mutalib Amara (Kafr El Sheikh), Amr Hanafi (Red Sea), Major General Gamal Nour El-Din (Asyut), and Major General Khaled Fouda (South Sinai).
Organisers say the awards are meant to showcase examples of governance that have improved public services and strengthened local institutions.
“Sub-national leadership anchors Africa’s advancement. These governors embody vision, integrity, and impactful service, transforming communities and inspiring public leadership across the continent,” said Dr Idahosa Osamahze, Vice-Chair of the Awards Committee.
The event will feature speeches, presentations on awardees’ projects, and meetings between political leaders, diplomats, and development partners.
