Bauchi NYSC Corp Member Found Dead

The Bauchi State Police Command has begun investigating the sudden death of a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Dambam Local Government Area.

The deceased, 28-year-old Nwokedi Chukwuebuka, was found dead in his apartment in the early hours of Sunday, August 10.

The accommodation was said to have been provided for corps members and the Corps Liaison Officer (CLO) in the community.

Police spokesman, CSP Ahmed Wakil, said on Tuesday that the Command received a distress call at about 9:20 a.m. from the CLO, who reported that Chukwuebuka, with state code number BA/25A/2069, did not come out as other Christian corps members prepared for Sunday service.

“The CLO went to wake him up but found that he was not breathing. He immediately reported the matter to the Dambam Divisional Police Headquarters,” Wakil said.

He added that following the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Sani Omolori-Aliyu, the Divisional Police Officer led a team to the scene. Chukwuebuka was rushed to a nearby hospital, where a doctor confirmed him dead.

His body was later taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare.

The police said the cause of death was still unknown but assured that investigations were ongoing.

NYSC management in the state was yet to comment on the incident, which has thrown the Dambam community and fellow corps members into mourning. Friends described Chukwuebuka as dedicated, friendly, and full of life.
