Tinubu Appoints Ibrahim Yakasai Vice Chancellor of Zamfara Health Varsity

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.

A retired Colonel in the Nigerian Army, Yakasai is currently the Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano, and the chairman of the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria.

Announcing the appointment in a statement on Tuesday, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said, “The President has approved the appointment of Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.”

Onanuga described Yakasai as “a distinguished scholar” who also sits on the governing council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State, and has held leadership positions including Director-General of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board.

Yakasai earned his MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, before winning a European Economic Commission scholarship for postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom, where he obtained membership and fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

He also holds a Master’s degree in Medical Education from the University of Winchester, as well as fellowships from the International College of Surgeons (USA) and the American College of Surgeons.

The President also approved the appointment of Mr. Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as Registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Aminu Liman as Librarian of the university.

In other appointments, Tinubu named Hon. Chisom D. Obih to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, following the death of a member.

He also appointed veteran communications scholar, Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye, to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
