The Kano State Police Command has assured residents of tight security ahead of Saturday’s re-run and by-elections in Ghari/Tsanyawa and Bagwai/Shanono State Constituencies.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, gave the assurance on Friday while addressing officers at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano.
Bakori, who spoke to personnel deployed across Ghari, Bagwai and Shanono Local Government Areas, warned that the command would not tolerate any form of misconduct or abuse of power.
“All necessary security arrangements have been finalized to ensure a peaceful, free, fair, and credible electoral process,” he said.
He reminded the officers of the importance of professionalism, neutrality and discipline during the exercise.
“You must shun any act capable of compromising your integrity. Our role is to safeguard democracy and maintain public trust,” he told the officers.
The CP said the deployment includes personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and other sister agencies who will conduct patrols, man polling units and respond swiftly to any breach of peace.
He read the riot act, stressing that anyone found wanting in the course of duty would face the full wrath of the law.
Bakori expressed confidence that the polls would be hitch-free.
“We assure residents of our unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and order before, during and after the elections,” he said.
He called on members of the public, especially those in the affected areas, to cooperate with security personnel and obey movement restrictions and other guidelines earlier announced.
