The Katsina State Government says 62 kidnapped victims escaped after the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) bombed a bandits’ camp in Danmusa Local Government Area.
Dr Nasir Mu’azu, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Katsina.
He said the airstrike carried out at Jigawa Sawai, a community bordering Zamfara State, led to the destruction of the camp belonging to a notorious bandit, Muhammadu Fulani.
“The operation conducted at about 5:10 p.m. on Saturday forced the criminals to abandon their stronghold, enabling the captives to flee in different directions,’’ he said.
According to him, 12 of the escapees are receiving medical care at Matazu General Hospital, while 16 others are under protection at the Army Forward Operating Base in Kaiga Malamai.
Mu’azu added that most of the escapees were abducted from Sayaya village in Matazu LGA during a night raid on Aug. 11, 2025.
He said the state had deployed a Quick Response Wing of the NAF to reinforce security in the area and sustain the ongoing operations.
He assured families that the victims would be reunited with their loved ones after necessary medical checks.
Governor Dikko Umar Radda commended the military for their gallantry and reiterated his administration’s commitment to ending banditry in the state.
