Sports stakeholders in Kano have called for unity, increased funding, and stronger collaboration to strengthen football in the state as Kano Pillars and Barau FC prepare for the 2025/2026 Nigerian Premier Football League season.
The call was contained in a communiqué issued after a meeting held at the Kano State Sports Commission on August 21, 2025, with representatives of SWAN, the State Sports Commission, Kano FA, Pillars, and Barau FC in attendance.
The communiqué urged fans of both clubs to embrace mutual understanding, describing Kano as “the hub of football across Northern Nigeria.”
It stressed the need for financial support, noting: “There is a pressing need for increased funding and sponsorship to sustain football development in the state and beyond.” Stakeholders also said synergy between the two clubs could attract investors for “a 100,000-seater modern stadium in the state sooner than later.”
Kano Pillars chairman pledged the clubs’ commitment to fairness and discipline, saying: “We will work with fans’ leadership to promote cleanliness and prove cynics wrong as the Premier League kicks off.”
