The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Monday, Aug. 25, 2025, as the first day of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH.
The declaration was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Prof. Sambo Junaidu.
According to the statement, the decision followed the absence of crescent sighting reports from moon sighting committees across the country on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, which was the 29th day of Safar 1447AH.
“His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has accepted the report, and accordingly declared Monday, 25th August, 2025 as the first day of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH,” Junaidu said.
He added that Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025, would therefore mark the 30th day of Safar.
