The Kano State Government has dismissed recent allegations of financial mismanagement involving its top aide, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo, as “politically motivated falsehoods.” The government accused opposition elements of orchestrating the claims to tarnish the image of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement released by Sanusi Bature DawakinTofa, Director General of Media and Publicity, the government responded to a *Daily Nigerian* report on August 22, which accused Rogo, the Director General of the Protocol Directorate, of diverting ₦6.5 billion from the state’s treasury.
Bature labeled the report a “deliberate act of political blackmail,” asserting it was a “fictional creation” aimed at discrediting the administration. He also confirmed that the case is currently before the High Court, and further comments would be withheld until the verdict is delivered.
The statement clarified that the Protocol Directorate handles purely administrative duties, including coordinating logistics, ceremonial events, state visits, and honoraria. The government emphasized that all financial transactions are thoroughly budgeted and controlled.
“Every cash outflow is properly documented and coded under the state’s fiscal policy. No government official handles public funds without a designated purpose,” the statement read.
Kano authorities also accused the opposition of using digital media to spread misinformation. They revealed that a special office has been set up to write petitions against the administration to disrupt governance.
The government further compared the current administration with that of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, accusing him of reckless spending of over ₦20 billion between February and May 2023 after his electoral defeat. The statement also referenced the infamous dollar-video scandal and alleged corruption involving the former First Lady.
The Kano State Government reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the prudent use of public funds, expressing confidence in Rogo’s integrity.
“We have no doubt about the credibility of Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo,” the statement declared.
While the government welcomed constructive criticism, it warned against spreading misinformation, threatening legal action against individuals or groups behind fabricated allegations.
“The administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains focused on delivering good governance and improving the lives of citizens. These falsehoods will not succeed,” Bature concluded.
The government also urged the media to maintain ethical standards and resist being used as a platform for propaganda, emphasizing its commitment to transparent and responsible journalism.
