Former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, says he will not contest for any political position in the 2027 general elections.
El-Rufai stated this on Wednesday in Kaduna while receiving some defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He explained that his renewed involvement in politics was not motivated by personal ambition but by the need to support credible leadership at all levels.
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory said his plan after leaving office in 2023 was to step aside from partisan politics.
He, however, said recent national developments compelled him to return, adding that his focus would be on mentoring young people, women and reform-minded Nigerians to actively engage in governance.
“I am not contesting for anything. I don’t want to go to the Senate. I am not seeking any position.
“When I finished my tenure as governor, I intended to rest. But given the way things have turned out, I believe we must play our part to bring about better leadership. That is why we are back in politics,” El-Rufai said.
He urged young people in Kaduna and across the country to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise, noting that their participation was crucial to reshaping the political landscape.
