The Katsina State Government has revoked the operational licences of all private and community schools across the state with immediate effect.
This was contained in a circular issued by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Zainab Musa-Musawa, and released to newsmen in Katsina on Saturday by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Sani Danjuma.
According to the commissioner, the decision followed the approval of the State Executive Council as part of ongoing reforms in the education sector.
“The ministry hereby notifies the public, proprietors and administrators of all private and community schools that all previously issued licences have been terminated effective August 13, 2025,” she stated.
She explained that the action was in line with the state’s new policy on private and community schools, which was presented to stakeholders at a sensitisation meeting on June 2, 2025.
The commissioner said the reforms were aimed at ensuring quality assurance, standardisation and effective regulation of teaching and learning across the state.
She added that all affected schools must reapply for fresh licences, noting that revised fees for application, registration, annual renewal and school upgrade had already been approved by the government.
“All receipts for new applications and registration must be submitted to the Department of Private and Community Schools. Payments are to be made strictly into the Katsina State Treasury Single Account on or before September 30, 2025,” Musa-Musawa said.
The commissioner warned school proprietors against arbitrary fee increases, stressing that no school should adjust tuition without the explicit approval of the ministry.
She further disclosed that details of school categorisations and the breakdown of revised fees would be communicated to the National Association of Proprietors of Private and Community Schools.
Musa-Musawa reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening supervision and accountability, saying the reforms were designed to secure the future of children in Katsina by upholding global best practices in education delivery.
