Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday congratulated Vice President Kashim Shettima on his 59th birthday, praising his loyalty and leadership, and saying he had justified the decision to pick him as his running mate.
“Since we embarked on this journey, united by the shared vision of building a more prosperous nation, your courage, sense of duty, tenacity, determination, and belief in Nigeria’s greatness have remained unshaken,” Tinubu said in a statement.
The president described Shettima as “my brother, co-traveller and Vice President,” commending his “vibrancy, loyalty, partnership, and support as my deputy.”
Tinubu said his choice of Shettima as running mate was based on competence and qualities Nigerians could rely on. “Every day, as Vice President, you have justified that choice by strengthening our work, bringing fresh perspectives, and upholding our commitment to Nigerians,” he added.
Shettima, a former two-term governor of Borno State and later senator, was lauded by Tinubu for serving with distinction “even in the face of immense challenges.”
The president highlighted their joint push for the Renewed Hope Agenda, citing progress in global partnerships, food security, and investment reforms. He said their cooperation would continue to deliver results, from trade expansion to building schools, hospitals, and jobs.
“Our relationship transcends official duties. It is a bridge across regions and traditions, united in purpose and service,” Tinubu said, wishing Shettima “continued strength, wisdom, and many more impactful years in service to Nigeria.”
