Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has announced the death of Professor Hafiz Miko Yakasai, who passed away on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025.
Prof. Miko was recently appointed as the pioneer Provost of the newly established College of Humanities at the institution.
In a statement issued by the university, BUK described his appointment as “a testament to his lifelong dedication to academia and the advancement of knowledge.”
The statement added that Prof. Miko was “a distinguished scholar, devoted intellectual, and senior academic who made invaluable contributions to the study of Nigerian languages and the Humanities.”
BUK further noted that his legacy would continue to inspire generations of students and scholars.
The institution also extended condolences to the bereaved family, saying, “On behalf of the Pro-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Council, Senate, Congregation, staff, and students, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, friends, and the wider community he so deeply impacted.”
According to the statement, Prof. Miko will be laid to rest on Friday, Sept. 5, 2025.
