Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on Sunday congratulated Vice President Kashim Shettima and other recipients of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) fellowship, describing the honour as recognition of their role in shaping the country’s economic policy and development.
The NES will on Monday confer the fellowship on Shettima and other leading economists, including Dr. Iyabo Masha, director of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four on International Monetary Affairs and Development (G-24).
Tinubu said the recognition reflected “exemplary service, intellectual depth, and commitment to advancing Nigeria’s socio-economic transformation.”
The president praised Shettima for “visionary leadership, deep insights, and relentless dedication to implementing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in driving inclusive growth, job creation, and sustainable development.”
Masha, a former member of Nigeria’s eight-person Presidential Economic Advisory Council that advised ex-President Muhammadu Buhari between 2019 and 2022, was also commended for her contributions to economic research and policy.
“As a nation, we are proud of your achievements and the example you set for current and future generations,” Tinubu said in the statement issued by his spokesman Bayo Onanuga. “Your passion, innovation, and service to the nation’s economic progress embody the spirit of excellence that our administration celebrates and upholds.”
Tinubu urged the new fellows to use their expertise to support economic recovery, foster inclusive prosperity and strengthen Nigeria’s global competitiveness, adding that his government would continue working with experts and institutions “to deliver enduring growth and shared opportunities for all Nigerians.”
