President Bola Tinubu on Monday expressed deep sorrow over the death of Chief (Mrs.) Leila Euphemia Apinke Fowler, a pioneering lawyer and educationist who established the Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls in Lagos. She was 92.
Fowler, widely celebrated for her role in shaping female education in Nigeria, held the chieftaincy title of Yeye Mofin of Lagos and was the mother of Babatunde Fowler, the former chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service.
In a statement issued by his special adviser, Bayo Onanuga, Mr. Tinubu described her death as “a massive loss to her family, loved ones, and the entire nation, particularly the education sector, where she distinguished herself as a visionary and trailblazer.”
“Through establishing the Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls, the late Mrs. Fowler laid the foundation for academic excellence, nurturing generations of young women and empowering them to reach their fullest potential,” the president said. “Her legacy lives on in the thousands of lives she transformed. The nation is grateful for her remarkable impact. She will be fondly engraved in our minds.”
Mr. Tinubu extended condolences to the Fowler family, friends, and associates, as well as to the faculty and students of the school she founded and the people of Lagos State. He added a prayer “that Almighty God will grant her soul eternal repose and comfort all who mourn her passing.”
