Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a 42-year-old man, Ogbole Henry, for alleged unlawful possession of arms and ammunition.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Moses Yamu, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen yesterday in Benin.
He said the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol Team during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Benin-Lagos road by “Evil Forest.”
According to him, “the operatives intercepted a commercial bus en route from Lagos to Benin. Other passengers on board were profiled and released to continue their journey.”
Yamu explained that further investigation led to the recovery of a pump-action shotgun and a Lexus RX 330 vehicle allegedly linked to the suspect.
“The suspect, who hails from Ewu in Esan Central Local Government Area of the state, has since been charged to court,” he added.
The police spokesman further said that efforts were ongoing to track down other members of the suspect’s criminal network.
He listed the items recovered from Henry to include “two locally fabricated pistols, eighteen 9mm live rounds of ammunition, and 10 live cartridges.”
