Kano District Head Idris Dankabo died in ghastly accident

The District Head of Kabo and Sarkin Gabas of Kano Emirate, Alhaji Idris Dankabo, has died in a motor accident in Kano.

Dankabo, 48, reportedly died on Thursday night after the accident which occurred within Kano metropolis.

The Kano Emirate Council announced his death in a post on its official Facebook page, Sanusi Dynasty, on Friday morning.

The deceased was the eldest son of the late Alhaji Muhammad Adamu Dankabo, Jarman Kano and founder of the defunct Kabo Air.

Family sources said the funeral prayer held today, Friday, at 10am at the Kano Emir’s Palace.

The Dankabo family is considered one of the most influential in Kano. The late patriarch, Alhaji Adamu Dankabo, was a prominent businessman, politician and philanthropist.

He founded Kabo Air in 1980, which operated domestic, regional and international flights before scaling down operations in the 2000s to focus on charter and Hajj services.

The title of Sarkin Gabas, held by the late Idris Dankabo, is one of the senior traditional positions in Kano Emirate, carrying both cultural and administrative responsibilities.

His death at a relatively young age is expected to leave a vacuum in the emirate’s traditional leadership structure.
