The Kano State Council of Friday Imams has called on security agencies in the state to intensify efforts in safeguarding peace and stability, especially against inflammatory messages being circulated on social media.
The chairman of the council, Sheikh Muhammad Nasir Adam, made the call in a statement issued to journalists in Kano.
He said the council was particularly concerned about “certain statements being circulated by some scholars on social media platforms,” stressing that such utterances could provoke discord and incite unrest in the state.
“On behalf of the Kano State Council of Friday Imams, I extend our sincere call to the security agencies in this blessed state to intensify their efforts in safeguarding peace, harmony, and stability,” Sheikh Adam stated.
Quoting the Qur’an, the cleric warned against complacency in the face of potential unrest: “And fear a trial which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and know that Allah is severe in penalty” (Qur’an 8:25).
He also cited a prophetic tradition, saying: “Fitnah (discord) is asleep; may Allah curse the one who awakens it” (Narrated by al-Dailami, from Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him).
The council prayed for lasting peace in the state and divine protection for security operatives.
“We pray that Allah grants our land lasting peace and security, and that He strengthens and protects our security personnel in their noble duty. Ameen,” the statement added.
