The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 148 Nigerians evacuated from Sudan through the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport.
The returnees, who arrived aboard a Tarco Aviation chartered flight around 2:30 pm on Friday, were received by officials of NEMA’s Kano Operations Office.
They comprised 25 men, 27 women, 39 boys and 57 girls.
In a statement issued on Saturday, NEMA said the returnees were taken to Chila Hotel in Kano for profiling and documentation by relevant agencies.
The agency explained that after documentation, they were provided with ATM cards loaded with transport fare and discharged. It added that none of them were enrolled into any reintegration programme.
“The exercise was well-coordinated and successfully executed,” NEMA said.
The evacuation is part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government, in collaboration with NEMA and international partners, to assist Nigerians caught up in the crisis in Sudan, where fighting between rival forces has displaced millions of people.
NEMA also noted that it has been working with international organisations to tackle challenges faced by Nigerian migrants abroad, while agencies such as the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) continue to rescue victims of human trafficking from camps in countries like Libya.
