The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Kano State chapter, has inaugurated its newly elected executive committee to steer the affairs of the organisation for another three years
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the inauguration held during the forum’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kano, was attended by prominent stakeholders.
Those inaugurated included; Dr Goni Faruk-Umar, re-elected as Chairman; Hajiya A’ishatu Maijama’a, Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, Vice Chairman, and Dr Aminu Usman-Jibrin, Secretary.
Others are; Alhaji Lawan Namakka, Assistant Secretary, Dr Mairo Bello, Treasurer, Hajiya Binta Rabiu, Assistant Treasurer, Hadiza Kishimi, Auditor, Alhaji Bello Sani Galadanchi and Nasiru Yusuf Ibrahim as Publicity Secretaries.
NAN also reports that the forum inaugurated members of Board of Trustees and Ex-Officios.
Speaking during event, the Chairman of the occasion, Gen. Haliru Akilu (rtd.), said the gathering was more than a statutory meeting.
He described it as “a reaffirmation of collective commitment to unity, purposeful leadership and regional progress and Nation.”
Akilu urged the new officials to consolidate on existing gains, while promoting peace, dialogue and socio-political relevance.
The National Chairman, Board of Trustees of ACF, Alhaji Bashir Mohammed-Dalhatu, lauded the chapter’s “exemplary strides” in poverty alleviation, youth empowerment, and active participation in trade fairs and conferences.
He tasked the new executives to sustain the momentum by building a permanent secretariat, completing the ACF Kano Book, and empowering 1,000 youths through the Akhuwat Empowerment Centre.
Also speaking, the National Secretary-General of ACF, Alhaji Murtala Aliyu, reminded them that state chapters “cannot speak for the national body”.
While assuring that past miscommunication had been resolved, Aliyu commended the Kano chapter for its achievements and urged the state to do more.
In his acceptance speech, the elected chairman pledged the new leadership’s readiness to intensify efforts to build on past successes and expand the chapter’s reach beyond Kano metropolis.
He listed future plans to include the completion of the ACF Kano Book, building a permanent secretariat, and creating sustainable livelihoods through the Akhuwat Empowerment Centre Initiative.
On his part, former Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Kano State, Alhaji Ahmad Rabiu, commended the leadership team and urged them to intensify efforts in addressing poverty, insecurity and other socio-economic challenges confronting the region.
NAN reports that awards were presented to six recipients, including Mr Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, NDLEA Commandant, Kano State, for his support in the fight against drug abuse.
