Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, in the 2023 elections, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has endorsed the expulsion of Abdulmumin Jibrin from the party, describing the decision as both “timely and necessary.”
Kwankwaso spoke on Thursday in Kano when he received elders and traditional title holders from Kiru/Bebeji constituency, who paid him a solidarity visit at his residence.
Recall that the Kano State NNPP chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, had on September 6 announced Jibrin’s expulsion, citing his repeated media outbursts against the party and its leadership. The development followed Jibrin’s open declaration in a recent online interview that he was preparing to leave the party.
Dungurawa had described the former federal lawmaker as a “weak politician” who leveraged on the Kwankwasiyya movement and NNPP platform to win elections rather than his own political strength.
Backing the move, Kwankwaso said, “This decision on the lawmaker is a necessary one because this movement is very important to us as it is our life and that of our supporters. Any movement is bound to fail without good leadership, and most of the time, it is proper to do away with disloyal followers to enable the movement succeed.”
He further commended the state chairman for what he called “a good move towards reforming the party.”
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the NNPP leader assured that the party would nominate a stronger and more credible candidate for the Kiru/Bebeji constituency.
“When the election time comes, we will carefully present a better candidate who will represent the people of the constituency, the party and its members well in the assembly,” he said.
