Man Stabs Grandparents to Death Over Food Quarrel in Kano

A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Kano State for allegedly stabbing his grandparents to death following a quarrel over food, police said on Thursday.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning at Kofar Dawanau Quarters in the Dala area of Kano, according to a statement from the state police command.

“At about 9:30 a.m., a resident of Kofar Dawanau Quarters reported that one Mutawakilu Ibrahim, aged 30, had a quarrel with his grandparents, Muhammad Dansokoto, 75, and Hadiza Tasidi, 65, over a food-related disagreement,” police spokesman Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said in the statement.

“During the altercation, the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab both victims in various parts of their bodies, causing severe injuries,” Kiyawa added.

The victims were rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where doctors confirmed them dead. Their remains were later released to relatives for burial in line with Islamic rites.

Police said the suspect, who was believed to be under the influence of intoxicants, was immediately taken into custody.

“Based on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for discreet investigation,” Kiyawa said.
