The Zazzau Emirate Council has announced plans to turban former Vice President of Nigeria, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, as the Sardaunan Zazzau.
According to an invitation issued by the council, the event will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Emir’s Palace in Zaria. The ceremony is scheduled to commence at 11:00 a.m.
The invitation read, “The Zazzau Emirate Council cordially invites you to the turbaning ceremony of His Excellency, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, GCON, FNIA, Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2010–2015, as Sardaunan Zazzau, by His Highness, Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, Emir of Zazzau and Chairman, Kaduna State Council of Emirs and Chiefs.”
Sambo, who was born on August 2, 1954, served as Nigeria’s Vice President from May 19, 2010, to May 29, 2015. Before then, he was the Governor of Kaduna State between 2007 and 2010.
The Emir of Zazzau, His Highness Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, is expected to preside over the turbaning ceremony, which will attract dignitaries from across the country.
The title of Sardaunan Zazzau is one of the most prestigious traditional positions in the emirate, reserved for individuals with outstanding contributions to leadership and community development.
