Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has nominated two new commissioners to join his cabinet, including a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) designate and a university mathematician, his office said on Sunday.
The governor forwarded the names of Abdulkarim Kabir Maude, a 40-year-old lawyer from Minjibir, and Aliyu Isa Aliyu, a 41-year-old associate professor of mathematics, to the Kano State House of Assembly for confirmation, spokesperson Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa said in a statement.
Maude, who will be formally inducted as a SAN at the Supreme Court on Monday, has more than a decade of experience in legal practice and has held senior positions in private chambers. He holds advanced degrees in law from Maryam Abacha American University of Niger Republic and Bayero University, Kano.
Aliyu, the current Statistician-General of Kano State, previously lectured at the Federal University Dutse and North West University in Kano, and completed postdoctoral research in China and Cyprus. A recipient of a foreign scholarship under the Kwankwasiyya programme, he is also a former financial secretary of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Kano chapter.
In a related appointment, the governor named Salisu Muhammad Tahir as Kano’s new Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice. Until now, Tahir was the Director of Public Prosecution.
Yusuf said the nominations were part of efforts to strengthen his administration with “young and energetic” figures, and he reaffirmed his commitment to professionalism and integrity in public service.
