Gov Yusuf Appoints New DG for Kano Bureau of Statistics

Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the appointment of Dr. Suraj Sulaiman as the new Statistician-General and Director-General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Mr. Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Sunday in Kano.

According to the statement, the appointment takes immediate effect following the elevation of the former Statistician-General, Associate Prof. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, to the position of Commissioner for Livestock Development.

The governor directed that the formal handover and takeover ceremony be conducted between Monday and Friday this week.

The statement described Dr. Sulaiman as an accomplished academic and mathematician with vast experience in research, teaching, and statistical analysis.

Sulaiman obtained his PhD in Mathematics from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Skudai, Johor Bahru, between 2015 and 2018, with a doctoral thesis titled “New Method of Computing the Projective Polynomial Resultant Based on Dixon, Jouanolou and Jacobian Matrices.”

He also holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Yasar University, Izmir, Turkey (2012–2014), and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil (2006–2010).

He began his academic career at the College of Arts, Science and Remedial Studies, Kano, where he earned a Diploma in Mathematics Education in 2006.

Gov. Yusuf congratulated Sulaiman on his appointment and expressed confidence that his wealth of experience would help reposition the Bureau for greater efficiency

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting data-driven governance, adding that reliable statistics remain crucial for effective planning, transparency, and sustainable development in the state.
