Kano Govt Suspends Health Officials Over Negligence in Vaccination Exercise

The Kano State Ministry of Health has suspended several health officials and partner representatives in Kabo Local Government Area over lapses in the ongoing Measles-Rubella Integrated Campaign, the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The ministry said it observed “with serious concern” that officials and partners in Kabo failed to conduct the vaccination exercise in line with established directives and operational guidelines.

“In view of this development, the Honourable Commissioner has ordered the immediate suspension of all concerned officials in the LGA — including the Head of Department (HOD), Local Immunization Officer (LIO), Cold Chain Officer (CCO), Routine Immunization Officer (RIO), Health Educator (HE), Monitoring and Evaluation Officer (M&E), Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Officer, Ward Focal Persons (WFP), as well as all partner representatives working in the area,” said Sa’adatu Suleiman, Public Relations Officer of the ministry.

She added that a new team has been constituted “to take over the activities in Kabo LGA with immediate effect to ensure the successful continuation of the Measles-Rubella campaign and safeguard the health of the people.”

The ministry emphasized its commitment to “accountability, transparency, and the effective implementation of all health interventions across Kano State,” the statement added.
