Northwest University solicits Kano State Government to purchase Anatomage Table after unveiling MedVR, a virtual medical training system that is the first Nigerian-made.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Atiku Kurawa, made the appeal during the Annual ASN and Second Conjoint International Conference held at the institution.
He explained that MedVR uses artificial intelligence to generate 3D images and virtual human models that simulate the structure and functions of the human body, including anatomical variations common among African populations.
Also speaking, Dr Maryam Nasir Aliyu, Head of the Department of Anatomy, launched the MedVR MicroAnatomy—a digital library containing microscopic images of human tissues designed to enhance anatomy teaching.
According to her, the platform, which can be accessed online by students, will significantly improve anatomy learning at Northwest University and Bayero University, Kano.
“The Anatomage Table is a high-tech touchscreen system that allows students to dissect and study life-like human bodies without using real cadavers. It will help the university validate MedVR’s virtual models,” she said.
In his remarks, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, represented by Kano State Deputy Governor Abdussalam Abubakar, lauded the innovation and urged greater investment in research and education.
Abubakar, who served as the university’s chancellor for the last time, assured the management that the state government would consider the request.
“The message will be passed to the state, and I can assure you that the Anatomage Table will surely be purchased,” he said.
