The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has handed over three suspected drug dealers to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
The State Commandant, Mr. Bala Bawa-Bodinga, disclosed this on Friday during a briefing and handover ceremony at the command headquarters in Kano.
According to him, the suspects — identified as Yusuf Alhassan, Muntari Musa, and Musa Sani, all residents of Doguwa — were arrested by operatives of the NSCDC Doguwa Division on October 7 at about 8:30 p.m.
He said the arrest followed credible intelligence that led to the interception of a motorcycle conveying three sacks suspected to contain Cannabis Sativa (Indian hemp).
“The suspects were nabbed while transporting the illicit substance from Doguwa town to Kafau in Doguwa Local Government Area,” the commandant stated.
Bawa-Bodinga explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in the sales and distribution of the banned substance within the area.
He added that the case, exhibits, and suspects had been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution, commending the ongoing collaboration between the corps and other security agencies, particularly the NDLEA, in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in the state.
Recovered items included three bags of Cannabis Sativa, a bag of rice, and a carton of spaghetti.
Receiving the suspects and exhibits, the NDLEA State Strategic Commander, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad — represented by DCN Bello Garba-Jabo — commended the NSCDC for its continued support and partnership.
“The drug war cannot be fought by one agency alone; it requires strong collaboration and intelligence sharing among all security stakeholders,” Idris-Ahmad said.
He assured that the NDLEA would conduct a thorough investigation and update the NSCDC on the progress of the prosecution, adding that the synergy between both agencies was crucial to ensuring public safety and a drug-free Kano State.
