Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said on Sunday that his relationship with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains cordial, despite the governor’s public call for his redeployment.
Governor Yusuf had urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to transfer Bakori during the 65th Independence Day celebrations, citing the commissioner’s absence and the reported withdrawal of police personnel from the parade.
Bakori said both institutions were carrying out their constitutional duties. “All of us are doing our job, and we are still friends and collaborating to ensure security of lives and property in the state,” he added.
The police chief also announced the arrest of nine suspected armed robbers accused of violent attacks across Kano, including an incident in which a woman was assaulted and one of her teeth removed with a diamond tool.
The arrests followed a robbery on October 8 in Unguwar Wambai, Dorayi Babba Quarters, where the suspects allegedly stole a Toyota Yaris, cash totaling 3.7 million naira, mobile phones, and other valuables. Eight suspects were apprehended in Kano and Kaduna States after one was initially detained.
Recovered items included firearms, knives, cutlasses, and a Toyota Corolla. Bakori said the suspects confessed to other robbery operations in Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano.
He credited the command’s Operation Kukan Kura, a community-based security model, with reducing crime and urged officers to sustain efforts to ensure public safety.
