The Jigawa State Government has warned contractors handling health-related projects to strictly comply with contract specifications and standards to ensure quality service delivery.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdullahi Kainuwa, gave the warning during the public bid opening for the renovation of Dutse General Hospital and the procurement of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF). The exercise took place at the ministry’s conference hall in Dutse.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim, Kainuwa said the projects were part of Governor Malam Umar Namadi’s efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and improve the welfare of citizens through social health insurance, improved infrastructure, and better working conditions for health workers as captured in the administration’s 12-point agenda.
He said the bidding exercise covered the supply of hospital equipment to 30 revitalised Primary Health Centres (PHCs), renovation of Dutse General Hospital, and the procurement of free delivery packs (Mama Kits) and RUTF.
“The bid opening is part of our commitment to transparency in awarding contracts. It allows all bidders to fairly assess and compare the outcome of their submissions,” Kainuwa said.
He cautioned successful contractors against deviating from the approved contract terms, stressing that any breach would attract sanctions.
“Contractors must adhere strictly to the agreed terms and conditions, especially regarding project timelines and quality standards. Any deviation without due approval will lead to serious consequences,” he warned.
Also speaking, a representative of the Due Process Office, Aminu Garba, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring value for money and promoting accountability in public projects.
On behalf of the contractors, Kabiru Muhammad lauded the state government for maintaining fairness and transparency throughout the bidding process.
A total of ten companies participated in the bid for the renovation of Dutse General Hospital, the supply of RUTF, delivery kits for nursing mothers, and medical equipment for 30 PHCs across the state.
