A women-led technology initiative in northern Nigeria is breaking barriers in digital inclusion by training girls and women to learn and innovate in their own language.
The Chief Executive Officer of Her Tech Hub, Safiyya Daba, said the organisation was established to close the gender gap in technology and promote digital inclusion among Hausa-speaking women.
“Her Tech Hub is a women-focused technology and innovation community in Kano State that equips girls and women with practical digital skills to help them grow, build solutions, and lead in the tech space,” Daba told Kano Times.
She added that the initiative’s main goal is to “bridge the gender gap and language barrier by giving all the resources in Hausa language.”
Founded with the slogan “Ita da fasahar ta, Tech da Ikon Allah,” Her Tech Hub runs a variety of programmes, including digital skills workshops, tech bootcamps, and innovation challenges designed to boost confidence and career prospects for women.
According to Daba, the mission of Her Tech Hub is to “create opportunities for women to learn, connect, and build a future in tech in our mother tongue — Hausa.” The organisation has reached women across several northern states through training sessions and community events that focus on digital literacy and leadership.
“Our vision is to build a strong network of empowered women who are creators, innovators, and leaders in technology,” Daba added.
Beyond training, Her Tech Hub also provides mentorship and networking opportunities to connect young women with professionals and players within Nigeria’s growing technology ecosystem.
By localising digital education in Hausa, Daba said the initiative aims to make technology more accessible to women in rural and semi-urban areas — a move she described as crucial for inclusive growth in Nigeria’s tech industry.
