Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has commissioned 10 solar-powered tricycles to boost intra-campus transportation and promote environmental sustainability.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Haruna Musa, disclosed this during the commissioning ceremony held on Monday at the institution’s main campus.
He said the project was part of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, supported by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), aimed at encouraging the use of clean energy in tertiary institutions.
Musa described the initiative as a landmark step toward green innovation and improved mobility within the university community.
“Today, we are delighted to receive 10 solar-powered tricycles that will operate within the university to ease transportation challenges for students and staff. We are also expecting an additional 10 soon,” he said.
According to him, with eight petrol-powered tricycles already in operation, the university will soon have a total of 28 tricycles serving its campuses.
He urged staff and students to make judicious use of the vehicles and regard the initiative as a shared asset aimed at improving campus life and reducing carbon emissions.
