The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the official opening of its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The agency said the portal would be open from Thursday, October 23, 2025, to Saturday, January 31, 2026, to enable eligible students in tertiary institutions across the country to apply for financial assistance.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Mr. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi.
Oluwatuyi said fresh students could apply using their admission numbers or JAMB registration numbers in place of matriculation numbers.
He appealed to tertiary institutions to exercise flexibility regarding registration and fee payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursement.
“Institutional heads are encouraged to show understanding in enforcing registration and fee payment deadlines for students whose loan disbursement is still being processed,” the statement read in part.
“Institutions that have not yet commenced their 2025/2026 academic session should formally write to NELFUND with their approved academic calendar to allow for scheduling flexibility,” it added.
The agency also called on tertiary institutions to consider temporary registration measures for students whose loan applications were under review, noting that no student should be denied access to education because of financial challenges.
NELFUND reiterated its commitment to supporting students and promoting inclusive access to higher education through sustainable financial assistance.
