A Principal Correspondent with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ramatu Garba, has written a touching tribute in memory of her late husband, Umar Mayana, 12 years after his death, describing him as a loving husband, devoted father, and her greatest source of strength.
In the message titled “A Heartfelt Tribute to My Beloved Husband, Umar Mayana,” Ramatu reflected on the pain of his absence and the cherished memories that continue to live in the hearts of their family.
“Today marks 12 years since you left this world, yet your memory remains alive in our hearts. Umar, you were more than a husband — you were my best friend, my confidant, and my greatest source of strength,” she wrote.
She described her late husband as a man of compassion and kindness whose love touched the lives of many. “Your love was pure, your heart was kind, and your presence brought joy and comfort to everyone around you,” she added.
Recalling their time together, Ramatu said Umar cared deeply for his family and others in need. “You were a loving husband and a devoted father who cared deeply for his family and for anyone in need. Your generosity and compassion touched many lives, and even in your absence, people still speak of the goodness you shared so freely,” she said.
She also revealed that their twin sons, Hassan and Hussaini, who were only four years old at the time of their father’s passing, have now grown into 16-year-old young men who reflect his qualities. “They have grown into fine young men, and I see so much of you in them — your smile, your calmness, and your gentle spirit,” she noted.
Speaking on her experience as a single mother, the NAN Principal Correspondent said the past 12 years have been filled with challenges but also with faith and gratitude. “These 12 years have not been easy. Raising them alone has been a journey of strength and faith. But I thank Almighty Allah for giving me the courage to carry on and for blessing me with supportive parents who have stood by me through it all,” she stated.
Concluding her message, Ramatu prayed for her late husband’s soul to continue resting in peace, describing his legacy as a lasting source of inspiration.
“Umar, you taught me resilience — how to face life with courage and find strength even in pain. Your memory continues to guide me, and your love still lights my path. We miss you deeply, but we take comfort in knowing you are resting peacefully. You will forever remain in our hearts,” she wrote.
She ended the tribute with the words: “May your gentle soul continue to rest in perfect peace. With love, always — your wife.”
