No fewer than 150 children from less privileged families in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State have benefited from the Back to School Initiative organised by the Dr. Dahiru Muhammad Hashim Foundation.
The event, held on Saturday at Mambayya House in Gwammaja, aimed to support pupils across various wards in Dala by providing them with educational materials and improving their access to schooling opportunities.
The foundation had earlier carried out several humanitarian activities in the area, including the distribution of school uniforms, renovation of schools, and provision of free medicines to residents.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Dahiru Muhammad Hashim, founder of the foundation and Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, said the initiative was part of his commitment to giving back to the community that nurtured him.
“We know the importance of knowledge as it is the backbone of any society’s growth. That is why, after taking 100 children back to school last year, we decided to increase the number to 150 this year,” he said.
Dr. Dahiru, who recalled being a beneficiary of a scholarship sponsored by former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, said he understood the transformative power of education.
“Among these children, we don’t know who the future leaders will be. Some of them may grow up to continue this kind of initiative because they have benefited from it,” he added.
Also speaking, Mr. Aminu Gidado, Project Coordinator of Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) in Kano and a close associate of Dr. Dahiru, commended the foundation for its sustained commitment to education and social welfare.
He said similar interventions were carried out last year, adding that the gesture reflected the Kwankwasiyya philosophy and its contribution to Kano’s political and economic growth.
“This is part of the Kwankwasiyya philosophy and its impact on Kano’s development because education remains the foundation of every society,” Gidado said.
A parent of one of the beneficiaries, Mr. Abubakar Kabir, thanked the commissioner for the gesture, assuring that the children would make good use of the materials provided.
“I am very excited that my daughter benefited from this initiative. I pray that Allah continues to guide and bless Dr. Dahiru for his good work,” he said.
During the occasion, Dr. Dahiru received several awards from youth associations within the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Dala, in recognition of his contributions to education and community development.
