The Kano State Hisba Board said on Sunday it had arrested 25 persons for allegedly organising a same-sex marriage ceremony in the Hotoro area of Kano metropolis.
In a statement, the board’s Deputy Commander, Mujahedeen Aminudeen, said the suspects — 18 men and seven women — were apprehended on Saturday at the Fatima Event Centre along Hotoro bypass.
“Today, Saturday, 25th October 2025, we received a report that some individuals were allegedly organising a same-sex wedding,” Aminudeen said. “Our operatives stormed the venue and successfully arrested 25 suspects.”
He explained that those arrested included the alleged groom and guests who came from various parts of the state, including Sheka, Yar Gaya, and Kofar Nasarawa.
Aminudeen added that the board would continue to clamp down on activities it considered immoral and warned that it would not allow “undesirable elements to tarnish the good image of Kano State.”
Same-sex relationships are outlawed in Nigeria and attract severe penalties, especially in northern states that enforce Islamic Sharia law.
