The Jigawa State Police Command on Monday presented ₦31.45 million in cash assistance to the families of 59 police officers who died while on active duty, under the Nigeria Police Force’s welfare schemes.
Commissioner of Police Dahiru Muhammad handed over the cheques on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, under the Group Life Assurance (GLA) and IGP Family Welfare Scheme, the command’s spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, said in a statement.
Muhammad said the gesture formed part of the IGP’s ongoing welfare initiatives aimed at providing financial relief and moral support to families of officers who “made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.”
He described the fallen officers as heroes who laid down their lives for peace, justice, and national unity, assuring that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
The commissioner urged beneficiaries to use the funds prudently for the benefit of their families, adding that the force remained committed to improving the welfare of serving and retired personnel.
Responding on behalf of the families, Mr. Surajo Shehu thanked the police authorities for the support, pledging to use the assistance responsibly to sustain the legacy of the deceased officers.
