Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on local government councils to hold regular security meetings to strengthen vigilance and improve coordination among communities across the state.
The governor made the appeal during a State Security Council meeting held on Thursday at the Government House, Kano, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Saturday.
Yusuf underscored the importance of intelligence sharing and collaboration between local communities and security agencies to prevent crime and maintain peace.
Heads of security agencies present at the meeting included commanders of the Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Navy, along with the state Commissioner of Police, and heads of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Nigerian Correctional, Immigration, and Customs Services.
Representatives from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) also attended.
Yusuf identified Shanono, Tsanyawa, Tudun Wada, Doguwa, and Gwarzo as local government areas requiring special attention due to their exposure to security threats.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace and stability, emphasizing that security remains the government’s top priority.
“We must continue to work together, from the grassroots to the state level, to safeguard lives and property,” he said.
Yusuf also expressed sympathy for residents affected by recent security incidents and assured them of the government’s sustained efforts to protect all communities across the state.
