President Bola Tinubu on Friday met with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, at the State House, Abuja.
The meeting, held behind closed doors, came a few days after the President received the Archbishop of Abuja, Bishop Ignatius Ayau Kaigama, as part of ongoing consultations with religious and traditional leaders across the country.
The President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Mr Dada Olusegun, confirmed the engagement in a post on his X handle, noting that it was aimed at promoting dialogue and strengthening social trust among Nigerians.
Presidency sources said the discussions formed part of the President’s wider consultations with moral and cultural leaders on consolidating peace, enhancing national integration, and addressing emerging social challenges.
According to the sources, the meetings are in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places emphasis on inclusivity, interfaith cooperation, and sustainable national stability.
The consultations also come amid global discussions on religious freedom, following the recent designation of Nigeria by the United States as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
The U.S. had alleged widespread violations of religious rights in Nigeria, but the Federal Government dismissed the claims, stressing that the Nigerian Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and interfaith harmony.
